Discovering Your Skin’s Undertone

Your skin’s undertone:

Finding your skins undertone is so important in choosing the right tones for your foundation, contour, blush, lip and eye colours; and even your clothes!!

Your skin tone can be fair, medium or dark but your skins undertone is determined by the colours underneath the surface of your skin which can be cool, warm, neutral or olive. That’s why you often see a C, W or N symbol on foundations along with the shade number.

You can have the same skin tone as someone but a different undertone and your undertone won’t change even if you tan.

How to find your skins undertone:

Try the following methods:

  • Put on a white dress, there are four possibilities, first, if it makes your skin look more rosy, your undertone is cool.
  • Second, your face may look more yellow/golden, therefore your undertone is warm.
  • Third, If you don’t see a change, then you have neutral undertones.
  • Finally, if your skin looks ashen or grey, you may have olive skin.
  • Look at the skin on the inner part of your wrist and see what the underlying colour is.
  • Check your veins on the inside of your wrist, blue is cool, green is warm and both blue and green means neutral undertone.
  • Jewellery test: Place a piece of jewellery next to your skin, if gold is more flattering, you have a warm undertone and if silver looks better on you then you have more cool undertones.

Conclusion:

Cool:

Your skin has more pink, blue or red in it and more likely to burn in the sun. You usually have more bluish/purplish veins and silver jewellery suits you best.

Your eyes are blue, grey or green with blond, brown, or black hair with silver, violet and ash undertones.
